Ch. 1 — The Three Heavens

• Michael Heiser’s whole project was recovering “the ancient supernatural worldview” biblical writers assumed their readers already had. What did we lose when we stopped assuming it?
• Daniel’s answer was delayed 21 days by a “prince of Persia” who wasn’t a human king. What is that, biblically — and why does it matter that most modern readers skip past it?

Ch. 2 — The Unseen Is Not Empty

• You argue territorial spiritual powers operate through permission — human allegiance, agreement, worship. If that’s true, what does “withdrawing permission” actually look like in practice, not just theologically?
• Psalm 82 depicts God judging members of a divine council for perverting their assignments. What does that text tell us about authority — both God’s and whatever these powers are?
• You draw a hard line between “prayer from desperation” and “prayer from authority.” Most people praying through a crisis are, by definition, desperate. How do you tell someone in that state to pray from authority instead?

Ch. 3 — The Throne, the Court, and the War Zone

• You use Robert Henderson’s three modes of approaching God — Father, Friend, Judge — and focus on the movement between Father and Judge. Why is “Judge” the mode most Christians avoid, and what are they missing by avoiding it?
• You distinguish confessing a sin from identifying an iniquity — a groove worn by repeated choices. Practically, how does someone find their own groove?

Ch. 4 — When Heaven Crashes In

• You lay out “Four Marks of Genuine Encounter.” What are they, and what’s the most common fake-out — an experience that mimics genuine encounter but fails the test?
• Isaiah, Cornelius, and John all got life-altering encounters that immediately produced obedience or mission, not just a story to tell. What’s the difference between an encounter that changes your trajectory and one that just becomes a testimony you repeat?

Ch. 5 — Jesus the Door

• You use Augustine’s three categories of false doors — philosophers, the religiously familiar, and heretical imitators. Which of those three is most active in culture right now, and where do you see it?
• Jesus’s claim to be the exclusive access point is one of the most offensive claims in the New Testament to a modern audience. You don’t soften it. Why not?

Ch. 6 — The Holy Spirit and Authorized Access

• You give readers a simple testing framework: does this lead toward Jesus and Scripture, or away from them? Walk me through how you’d actually run a real, contested spiritual experience through that test.
• You describe the Spirit as a Person who intercedes for you, not a force you access. What changes practically — not just theologically — when someone actually believes that distinction?

Ch. 7 — When Prayers Hit Resistance

• You identify three different reasons prayer can feel stuck: second-heaven resistance, personal hindrance, and divine formation. How does an ordinary person tell which one they’re in the middle of?
• Your line “we’re not fighting for victory — we’re fighting from victory” reframes spiritual warfare entirely. What’s the practical difference in how a person actually prays?

Ch. 8 — Gates, Doors, Open Heavens

• You warn about “Bethel becoming Beth-aven” — worship of the location replacing worship of God. Where do you see that happening in the current wave of interest in open heavens and portal cities?
• You call Jesus “not just one more sacred location but the Person in whom heaven and earth meet.” Does that claim quietly undercut a lot of the “thin places” and portal-city language popular in charismatic circles right now?

Ch. 9 — Forbidden Fire

• Saul went to the witch of Endor out of desperation when God went silent. You draw a direct line from that to people going to psychics today. What’s the actual desperation underneath both?
• You lay out four tests for telling a psychic from a prophet: source, method, authority, fruit. Can you run a real, well-known example through all four, live, right now?
• How do you pastorally handle someone who went to a medium after losing someone, believing they made real contact — without either validating something false or being cruel to someone in grief?

Ch. 10 — Out of Body or Out of Bounds?

• You draw a hard line between Peter’s rooftop trance in Acts 10 and deliberate astral projection, built on John Chrysostom’s phrasing that “the soul was caused to be out of the body” — passive, not chosen. Why does that grammar matter so much?
• You cite Steven Bancarz describing being pulled out of his body twice, “wholly apart from my consent.” Doesn’t that contradict the entire New Age premise that these experiences are consensual and safe?
• You outline a demonic grooming pattern in astral projection practice — initiation, escalation, punishment, control — that mirrors cult recruitment and predatory grooming almost exactly. Was that comparison intentional?
• You sort out-of-body phenomena into three categories: holy, human (neurological), and hostile. How does an ordinary person — not a theologian — actually sort their own experience into one of those three?

Ch. 11 — The Chemical Gate?

• You use a framework you call “Suggestive, Significant, but Not Self-Authenticating” for NDEs and DMT experiences. What does that framework let you affirm, and what does it refuse to affirm?
• Walk me through the Greyson/Holly Case — what makes it genuinely hard to explain by brain activity alone, and why do you still stop short of calling every NDE revelation?
• You describe what you call the “Two-Conference Contrast” — the same grieving, searching person ending up either at the feet of Jesus or with spirit guides, depending purely on which content reaches them first. What does that say about how fragile discernment is in the current spiritual-but-not-religious moment?

Ch. 12 — High Strangeness

• Culture defaults to “ghost equals the spirit of a dead person.” You argue that’s not the biblical position. What is, and why does the culture keep defaulting to the wrong one?
• What’s the “Jesus Test” for a paranormal entity, and why do you think it’s more reliable than anything modern paranormal investigation equipment measures?
• You bring Ephesians 6:12 and the three-heavens cosmology into the UAP conversation. How does that reframe what people are actually seeing when they report a UAP encounter?
• You cite Athanasius: “whenever the soul remains fearful, there is a presence of the enemies” — a fourth-century fear test. Does that hold up against modern accounts of demonic versus angelic encounters?

Ch. 13 — Borrowed Light

• You use Nadab and Abihu — priests who died for bringing “unauthorized fire” to the altar — as the frame for the whole kundalini/crystals/energy-work chapter. Make that connection for people who don’t know the Old Testament story.
• If kundalini energy produces real sensations that feel similar to what Christians describe experiencing with the Holy Spirit, how do you actually tell the difference — not spiritually, but practically, in the moment?
• You quote Augustine calling all amulets “either illusions of demons or compacts with demons.” Does that verdict extend to Christian objects — crosses, prayer beads, anointing oil — or is there a real distinction?
• Simon Magus had real supernatural power and the wrong authorization. Peter had real power and the right authorization. If raw power proves nothing, what’s actually the tell?

Ch. 14 — Seeing Too Much

• You name five different sources of unusual spiritual perception: gift, neurodivergence, trauma, counterfeit, and imagination. How does a person — or a pastor evaluating someone in their church — actually distinguish between these five?
• You cite John Cassian: “wonderful works do not prove pure love” — meaning a real gift can operate through an unholy person. That’s an uncomfortable claim inside charismatic circles that tend to equate accuracy with anointing. Why do you think that conflation happens so often?
• You draw a sharp distinction between exploiting a spiritually sensitive person and pastoring one. What does exploitation actually look like in charismatic church culture?

Ch. 15 — Test the Spirits

• What are the Five Tests, and can you apply all five, live, to a real spiritual claim someone in the audience might be dealing with right now?
• You separate “accuracy of gifting” from “holiness of character” as two entirely different measurements. Why do so many people collapse the two into one?
• You outline three different modes freedom from spiritual oppression can take — power encounter, spiritual counsel, biblical formation — using a framework from Jack Hayford. Why do so many Christians expect only the first and get discouraged when it doesn’t come?
• Your five-step field guide is pause, pray, test, respond, stay connected. Which step do most people skip, and what does skipping it actually cost them?

Ch. 16 — Living from the Third Heaven Down

• Becca Greenwood’s line — “we’re not fighting for victory, we’re fighting from victory” — sits at the center of this chapter. What does that actually change about how someone prays through a crisis, moment to moment?
• You list six elements of prayer — alignment, abiding, obedience, confidence, will-alignment, communion. Most teaching on prayer focuses on one or two of these. Why include all six, and which one do you think gets skipped most in charismatic prayer culture specifically?
• You argue answered prayer is marked not by an immediate yes, but by peace. How do you keep that from becoming a way to spiritually explain away every unanswered prayer?

Ch. 17 — Communion over Curiosity

• Blake Healy says someone who spent real time with Jesus and never once encountered anything supernatural has “won a lottery.” That’s a striking thing for a book about supernatural encounter to include. Why put that line in?
• The Ephesian believers burned their magic scrolls publicly, at real financial cost. What’s the modern equivalent — what are people quietly keeping that they’d need to actually burn, not just stop doing?
• You outline three types of open spiritual doorways: habitual sin, ancestral patterns, and emotional trauma. Which of the three do you think Christians are most likely to skip when they do a spiritual inventory on themselves?
